Artificial Intelligence (AI), The Antagonist?

Artificial Intelligence

The world of cinema is to blame for the terrible image it has casted onto artificial intelligence (AI). A prime example is Disney Pixar's Wall-E (2008) where AI ended up taking captive of a whole society in space while waiting for a sign of life to return to Earth. Spoiler Alert! The AI of the spaceship continually avoided to let the people know that Earth was safe to return. It seems that AI has always been type-casted as an antagonist in the movie industry. Regardless of how the movie industry portrays AI, it is a form of digital technology that augments on human capabilities. Even in different phases of the movie-making process, AI can be integrated.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is only about two years old and it has certainly made an immense impact. This AI technology allows a user to ask questions on certain topic and the chatbot will provide a logical answer. As a student, this would seem a lot like plagiarism. In reality, ChatGPT can be considered a resource that aids the user in acquiring and disseminating proper information. Most users believe that concept of a chatbot assisting in the process of research and analysis. I was a bit skeptical and weary in using ChatGPT with plagiarism in the back of my mind. But after using the technology, I can safely say that it is a beneficial tool in any sector of life. The versatility that ChatGPT offers has proven beneficial in sectors like media, tech, and the public. What is important for professionals to understand if the capabilities that ChatGPT offers and how it can be used to attract an audience. It would be ideal to implement ChatGPT as an educational tool which can exonerate any fears towards the technology. Once it is seen as a beneficial tool, which seems to be making its way to that conclusion, the world should be seeing more implementation of AI.

The Impact of Social Media with Museums

How long after you wake up, do you check your social platform? For me, I open it up right as I make myself a cup of coffee. The process can be similar to getting the newspaper in the morning from the street. It has become part of my daily routine as I start the day. I can see what I missed while I was sleeping and any breaking news that has heavy importance to my life. Staying engage, keeping connected, and providing content are essential characteristics offered from social media (Amanatidis et al., 2020). That sense of connection is what relieves any tension of missing out on anything. Fear of missing out (FOMO) is real and it can have a lasting impact.

Social Media

Social media alleviates the FOMO sensation. YouTube, TikTok, and Snachat are online platforms that utilize short-form or long-form videos. Seeing a clip or video can give a user a comfort feeling from experiencing the content and connecting them in that moment. Pew Research Center released statistics of social media use by US teens between the ages of 13-17. While YouTube has 93% of US teens utilizing the platform, TikTok was at 63% with Snapchat at 60% (Pew Research Center, 2024). It is safe to say that due to this most recent pandemic, social media has been known to provide an alternate outlet to consuming information and keeping entertained.

How can museums utilized social media to provide information and keep users engaged?

Museums are places where once can immerse themselves in a particular topic ranging from art, history, politics, agriculture, fashion, and the list goes on. The success of a museum and their exhibits relies on the perceptive appeal of a visitor. Social media can boost that journey to success for a museum. The use of social media platforms can enhance the campaign of exhibits and provide updated information that is easily accessible to visitors. However, it is essential for organizations to understand their target audience and the tools each platform offers. TikTok is a great example of a social media platform that museums can use to reach and connect with an audience. Short-form clips can be created and posted on a user's account where the algorithm starts its job. The sole responsibility of an algorithm is to take the published content and produce it to all users that have aligning interests. Museums can use social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat, to reach a target audience and to connect them with different cultural institutions

The Impact of Mobile Technology in Healthcare

When I think of the future, I imagine the American animated sitcom, The Jetsons (1962). The technology of that time has advanced to where everyone relied upon them. Cars are flying, artificial intelligence is highly seen incorporated into the culture, and robots are utilized as assisted living. Mobile technology is something we, as human beings, rely heavily to navigate through today's life and society. Smartphones, tablets, and wearable tech are some that are classified as mobile technology. While most see mobile technology as simple devices, others see it as a form of connection and an essential part of life. The most notorious sector that has taken full advantages of mobile technology is healthcare. In the summer of 2021, I caught pneumonia twice in two separate instances. Once in September and then again in November. Keep in mind, the world was trailing off COVID-19 but it was still a grave issues. For those who have never experienced pneumonia, imagine having a hard time breathing and moving around. Going to visit a physician with pneumonia was very difficult as most will say resting is important. Lucky enough, my healthcare provider began utilizing telehealth to easily and efficiently provide mobile healthcare. Without having to move from my bed, I was able to speak to a healthcare provider. Since I utilized wearable technology, the healthcare provider was able to access my health stats through technology. Without these accessible options, it would have been more difficult to received health care options during a world crisis. Here is a list from an infographic provided by Maryville University (2021) listing the purpose of mobile health:
